About
I have always been interested in being creative in different mediums.
I was a photographer for 20 years and in 2001 I started to feel that I needed a new challenge. I had always been a treasure hunter at estate sales and flea markets and thought that I might open a store, but couldn’t possibly afford the rent. While walking my dog and speaking on the phone, I came up with the idea to create an online catalogued prop rental company.
3 days later, modprop.com was born. Over the years, I had always played with the idea of staging apartments, but could never figure out my angle. Sometimes I would gets calls about some projects, but nothing really came of it.
Recently a friend asked me to make a proposal to stage an apartment in the West Village of NYC that wasn’t selling and needed visual help. I started looking online to see how apartments were being marketed and I realized that most spaces left me cold, looking like art galleries where nobody lived. I wrote a text to that friend complaining that the listings mostly lacked the “flavor cool”. As soon as I hit the send button, I thought that would be a great name for a staging company. A quick domain search and I hit the internet lottery!
It came to me that what was missing from the cookie cutter home staging world was a personal interpretation of a contemporary lifestyle, where a buyer can enter into a space and immediately feel that they are home.
Utilizing Modprop’s massive contemporary collection, I can pick and choose anything that fits my imagination for any design project. Hopefully that next house, loft, or apartment might be yours and we can taste the flavor cool!
